Why use Ascertia’s ADSS LTANS Evidence Server?

Ascertia’s Long-term Archive and Notary (LTAN) Evidence Server is a valuable tool for organisations that need to comply with regulatory requirements, protect electronic document integrity, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.

The server is compliant with Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) LTANS specifications, which are the industry standard for long-term electronic document archival. ADSS LTANS also supports the use of digital signatures and timestamping to ensure the authenticity and integrity of these documents. It uses a variety of security measures to protect document confidentiality, integrity and availability while automating the archival and retrieval process.

FAQs

What is a long-term archive and notary server (LTANS)?

Long-term archive servers

An LTAN Server is a system designed to store data for extended time periods, up to and including decades and even centuries. These servers often store data that requires preservation for future generations, such as historical documents, scientific data, and financial records.

Notary servers

Notary Servers provide secure and tamper-proof digital document storage. They use various technology to ensure stored documents cannot be altered or deleted without leaving a record in an audit trail. These servers are often used to store important documents, such as contracts, wills, and patents.

Ascertia’s ADSS LTANS Evidence Server combines both functionalities into one product. It stores data for extended periods, uses advanced security measures to protect data and can be scaled to store significant data volumes.

How is Ascertia’s ADSS LTANS Evidence Server different from standalone Long-term archive and notary servers?

ADSS LTANS is not a standalone server – it is a software application that organisations can install on various servers. This means you can use existing infrastructure to store your data, saving you costs.

Additionally, it is specifically designed for long-term archiving and notarisation. ADSS LTANS Evidence Server has features that are not typically found on its standalone counterparts. This includes the ability to refresh timestamp evidence records using new algorithms and updated PKI certificates.

What features does Ascertia’s ADSS LTANS Evidence Server offer?

Interoperability and flexibility

Organisations can use multiple archive profiles for varying business requirements or document types. There are various retention policies available, including the option of auto-deleting archived objects at the end of their retention period.

Flexible data storage

Organisations have several options to store Archive Data Objects and Evidence Record Syntax (ERS) Data, including the following:

  • Within its own database
  • It can return the data to the original business application for local storage
  • On a local file system
  • Published to an online URL

High availability

ADSS LTANS Server can be built to use various platforms. This is achieved through Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) from different vendors, as well as multiple internal or external Time Stamp Authorities (TSAs) and Certificate Authorities (CAs).

Does ADSS LTANS Server integrate with existing business applications?

Multiple integration options are available. This includes high-level client Application Programming Interface (API) in Java and .Net, driving HTTP and web-service protocols, as well as ADSS Auto File Processor (AFP)-based watched folder processing.

Is ADSS LTANS Evidence Server secure?

Security is a top priority. Provenance data can be retained within the evidence record:

  • Existing signatures can have the verification information saved with the archived object
  • Notary signatures can be applied to the archived object as an option
  • Evidence records can be exported for independent storage or review

Because cryptographic algorithms become weaker over time, the ADSS LTANS Evidence Server supports the ability to refresh the evidence records using new algorithms and updated public key infrastructure (PKI) certificates. This ensures documents are safe and secure long into the future.

What standards are supported?

Ascertia’s Long-term Archive and Notary Server meets the following certifications and standards:

  • RFC 4998 XMLERS – ADSS LTANS is fully compliant with the RFC 4998 XMLERS (Extensible Language Markup Language Evidence Record Syntax). Documents can be protected through the entire archive period using secure timestamps (RFC 3161 and RFC 5816).
  • RFC 6283– It complies with the IETF’s RFC 6283 standards for LTANS specifications, in particular XMLERS.
  • Long-term Archive Protocol (LTAP) – It also supports the LTAP, defining the request/response messages for accessing the web service.
